Christian Girl Survival Kit
If you were stranded on a desert island, what would you take with you? Would those items change if you were a Christian? I mean survival is survival right? Wrong. In this post, I am going to share what I think are the critical items you would need to survive just about anything. I’ll try to keep the items to the bare minimum. We aren’t packing for a 10-day trip in Europe; we are talking about items you would want if everything else falls apart. My Christian girl survival kit includes things that I think are crucial to have in an emergency situation...like end times or a natural disaster.
Every “doomsdayer” in the world is going to disagree with my list, so if you are one of those people you can stop reading right now. I am not going to buy a piece of land in the middle of nowhere and bury a bunker in order to survive. However, I do want to be prepared for whatever life may throw at me, you know...like a global pandemic. #thathappened

Bible
The very first thing you should consider putting in your Christian Girl Survival kit is a Bible. It’s the greatest weapon you can arm yourself with. If you think I am being trite, think about the war that went on in your mind in 2020 when Covid kicked off. The Bible IS the grounding word of God that will set you straight and help you fight fear with faith. This is why it is the very first thing I pack in my kit. I would get a compact bible if possible because it takes up less space. There are a lot of translations out there, so pick the one you are familiar with and love.
Water
Next item...water. Obvs. You can only survive about three days without water and so it becomes a critical need first. One of the items I’ve stored in my survival kit is a Life Straw. One can filter 1000 gallons of water. However, if you don’t have a body of water near you that could be an issue to make sure you have actual water until you can get to a location with a more consistent supply.
Knife
A must-have is a knife. Knives are multi-purpose. Here is a list of the many uses of knives in case you think you can do without one in your pack. 19 uses of your survival knife. Just remember to include a knife sharpener in the pack as well...a dull knife defeats the purpose.
Rope and Tarp
Rope and waterproofing tarp. This is obvious for creating an emergency shelter. It’s not going to be as cozy as your Coleman, but it is lighter and more portable. Plus you can use the tarp and rope for a number of different things if you really did have to set up camp in the woods. I like this paracord with a carabiner.
Fire Starter
A fire-starting kit or tool (waterproof matches/flint&steel) is critical to survival. I would also laminate a card on how to start a fire (think Boy Scout style here). Keeping warm is a huge issue, as is cooking, disinfecting wounds, etc. Fire can boil water, BBQ game if you are crafty enough to catch it, and keep predators at bay.
Daily Prayer
Daily prayer. This might seem like an obvious thing for a Christian to survive. However, in a crisis, we can sometimes forget to pray. I was in NYC during the 9/11 attacks and watched the second tower fall with my own eyes. Rather than pray, I was glued to the television. I was traumatized and mesmerized. It wasn’t until much later, after much therapy, that I realized prayer would have been a game-changer. It can be difficult to find hope when we feel hopeless. Daily prayer allows you to tap into the divine creativity of God, and you will need that in enormous doses.
A willingness to embrace new things.
When unexpected events threaten our day-to-day lifestyle, we don’t cope very well. People give in to chaos, fear-mongering, and violence quickly when the world descends to an “Every man for themselves mentality.” As Christians, God can show us a way to survive without fighting our neighbors for the last roll of TP...can I get an amen? You might be used to wiping your beautiful behind with Charmin, but you get industrial-strength tree bark...regardless your butt is still clean. Be willing to try new things when facing the unknown.
A journal
A journal. I know that this is really a luxury item in a survival kit, but if I am going to be traipsing through nature trying to survive it deserves to be documented. Plus, the regular habit of writing down your thoughts can help you process and hopefully not lose your mind. If God forbid you don’t get out of this whole experience alive at least people will have some memoir of who you were and what you were all about. You never know if your journal might end up being a story that saves someone’s life before the real rapture occurs.
Trust God is sovereign.
Regardless of what you decide to put in your Christian girl survival kit, the main thing you need to remember in any emergency is that God is sovereign. He is in control of all things at all times. Even though the enemy of our spirit rules this world, his time is short. Jesus is coming back. YES! But before he does, humanity will suffer greatly.
Like the early church persecutions, we will be ostracized for our faith and ultimately seen as outsiders in a dark world. Be prepared to be hated as Christ was hated. Be prepared to love the unlovable. Be prepared to put the steel of faith in your backbone because you will need that more than anything.
I hope we never have to live through these times and that Jesus graciously takes us home beforehand. However, I want to be the kind of Christian that can endure through the end and receive my King having persevered through the most difficult of times. Some of these tools will help but I believe that a deep abiding knowledge of the word of God and daily prayer are the two things that will determine how I look on the other side. Pack a kit...but pack your mind and heart with the love and hope of Jesus.
